Mini Vehicle Mat (part 1)

Today we make the cars and the basic mat. Pay atention to how many squares of graph paper each thing takes up.

Car

I use polymer clay to make the cars. You can make them in any color you want, if you want it to be more realistic make them in very neutral colors, but you can make a whole rainbow of cars if you like. You need two colors, one for the wheels and one for the rest of the car.

1. Roll a shape like this out of the main color.

2. Flatten the bottom and the ends to give it a car shape.

3. Take some extra clay off the ends, and shape the car a little more.
4. Take some black clay for the wheels. Make four little balls out of it. Then flatten them.

5. Put them on the car like this to make wheels. Once they are on both sides, the car can stand up and you are finished. Bake according to your clays' packaging.

Police Car

To turning your car into a police car is pretty easy. Take your unbaked car to start with, and we will add some details with more polymer clay.

1. Take two tiny red peices of clay and one tiny white peice.
2. Put all three peices together like this.
3. Put it on top of your car, and push the sides in to be more square and line up with the car.
Semi Truck

There is plenty of variety in the vehicles that drive on the road, so I also made this semi truck. It is made from polymer clay to.

1. Make only the front of a car.
2. Take a different color and make a rectanglular prism.
3. Put the two peices together.
4. Make small circles from black clay. Then smush them. Put them on the truck for wheels.
once the clay is on both sides, the truck can stand up.
5. Bake the clay acording to the instructions it came with, and your cemi truck is done!

Mat w/ Roads

To make the mat, you need a peice of graph paper and one of those plastic sheets to cover papers in binders with. Put the graph paper inside the sheet.
Use dry erase markers to draw on roads.
Remember to erase the markers after a day or two, or they will become permanent.

Now your cars are ready to play with. Have fun! Learn how to make buildings in part 2, and people and other vehicles in part 3.
