DIY Reversible Belt Pouch
I'm really exited to share how to make these belt bags because they give such a clean, finished result but are actually really simple to make, if you already have some sewing skills. I made mine with ren faire in mind but I think they are super cute for any time if you use your favorite fabrics. Speaking of which, the bag is fully reversible so you have double the color options! You can also change the size and shape for different affects. Before you start making the project, I recomend reading through all the instructions so you know what to expect. I also recomend making use of your iron!
First, cut out all the pieces. You need four pieces for the bag, two flap pieces, and a small rectangle for the belt loop. Two of the bag pieces will be on one side and two on the other, so I used different colors. Each of the flap pieces will be on one side, so they can be different colors as well.
I haven't included a pattern for the pieces, so you have to make your own shapes. You can draw them on paper first or go strait to fabric if they are simple enough. I drew some examples for different bag shapes below.Take a small rectangle, wider than the belt you plan to use. You can hem it on both sides like I did on the photo below, but a better way would be to fold it in half, sew up the side, and flip right side out.
Sew a belt loop to each of the sides with a flap, placed near the top. Fold the top and bottom underneath so you don't have a raw edge. If you have a wider bag, you may want to put two loops on each instead of one.
Match up a blank side to the side we have been working on, with the good sides facing each other. Sew around the sides and bottom, leaving the top with the flap open. Repeat for the other color.
Put on of the bags inside the other, so the good sides are facing eachother. Carefuly line up the flaps and opening, and sew around them. Leave a hole in order to flip it right side out.
After flipping the bag so the good sides are out, hand sew the opening shut. I have placed mine so it will be hidden under the flap most of the time.
Choose two buttons, one for each side. Line them up with the flap and sew to the body on each side.
Add a button hole to the flap.
Thank you for reading this far and I hope you like the project! Wearing the bag to ren faire like I am? If so, check out these diy mushroom earrings that go perfectly with it! If you have any questions feel free to comment.
