How to Make Kitty Bookmarks

Image
I can always use more bookmarks so this is a really useful craft. It is very simple so you can focus on drawing cute faces. I gave my cats lots of different emotions. I love how the little ears stick out of the book when it is closed. You could try making different animals, but I like the cats because their ears are recognizable. Start with scrap paper so you can get the shape right without making your final paper look messy. Fold your paper. Draw on the folded part what you want your bookmark to look like. Draw only half of it, and end on the fold. Cut out along your drawing and unfold so you see the whole shape. If it does not look right you can fold it in half again and adjust. Now you half the final shape you want your bookmark. Trace onto the paper you want the bookmark to be made of. I am using cardstock. I like when bookmarks are a little thicker because it makes them more durable, but regular paper is okay. Cut out the bookmark. Sketch the face on. You can also sketch on ...

DIY Doll Belt made from Washi Tape

Image
I always love washi tape because of all the fun colors and patterns. There are a lot of creative and unexpected uses for washi tape. I made a doll belt using it. This would work for small dolls like fashion dolls and other small dolls, unless you are using especially wide washi tape. Since it is adjustable, you can use the same belt on multiple types of dolls. This is a very fast project so you could make it on short notice to match a new outfit. The only supplies you need are washi tape, jump rings and scissors. You also need your doll on hand. Depening on how big your washi tape is you may want different size jump rings. Choose your washi tape. Tear a peice off that is longer than you need to go around your dolls waist. Fold the washi tape in half with the sticky sides facing each other. Press them together for most of the way down the tape. The only part that should still be sticky is the end you did not press together. Go to the end that is not folded. Cut half of the tape of...

Barbie Pajama Bottoms (w/ pattern!)

Image
I have a pattern for both pajama pants and shorts. It is really cute to use flannel for these and makes it more cozy looking. You can use other fabrics if you want, but I think flannel is best. In the instructions, I am making the shorts, but the directions are the same for both the pants and shorts. Read through all the directions before starting. Here is the pattern to print:  Start by cutting out your patterns. Choose which you want to make then cut the peices for that from your fabric. (I used the shorts pattern) Hem the bottom edge of both peices. I forgot to take a picture. Line up your two peices right sides together. Sew along this curve. Open it up and fold over the top. Sew across this. This is the casing for the elastic.  Fold it again so the peices are right sides together. Sew the other curve. Fold so it looks like there are two legs. Sew on the opening. Then you can turn the pants right side out. Cut a peice of elastic about 3 1/2 inches. Put a safety pin ...

How to Modify a Made to Move Barbie Shirt

Image
A lot of the made to move barbies come with this type of shirt. I do like the colors on some of them, but other aspects are not as good. I think that it is supposed to look like she is wearing a shirt underneath, but I don't like it when there is two peices of clothing attatched together. This shirt also does not have velcro on the back so it is hard to put on her again. Also, the sleeves are not even a seperate peice. It is a fun and quick project to give this shirt a makeover and make it cuter. Remember to take your time when you are taking peices of the shirt apart so that you have the max amount of fabric to work with. This has a lot of small seam allowences, so I did a lot of hand sewing on this project. Start by opening the seam in the back with a seam ripper. Use a seam ripper again to take off the other color of fabric at the bottom. Carefully cut one sleeve off the shirt. Repeat on the other sleeve. I folded mine in half to try to get the same cut on the other side. Hem ...

Fuse Bead Christmas Ornaments

Image
Fuse beads (also known as perler beads) are a really good way to make ornamants for christmas trees. I made a few patterns you can use, you can also look up pictures for tons more ideas and patterns. To use these pictures you place beads on your base plate the same way as the beads are placed in the picture. All my patterns are pretty small because I do not feel like taking forever to make a bigger one. All of my patterns are made on the regular square grid base plates. First is a music note. You can use any color you want for it. The next one is a mailbox. It is super adorable and very small. You could change the colors, maybe a gray mailbox or any color really. A lot of color combinations would be cute. Cat wearing a santa hat. I love how the hat is only on one ear. You can change the color and add markings to your cat. You could also try to make it into a different animal. This unicorn is a square so they looks kind of funny. I think its cute. My favorite part is how the unico...

DIY Gift Tags

Image
These gift tags are easy to make and decorate, and they are pretty cute. You could put them on a gift bag or something else. I have instructions on how to make all three of these designs, but you could definetley do your own drawings. These are just to give you ideas and help if you are not confident in drawing. You could also use colorful or patterened paper. You can also try using those scissors that make patterns to cut out the tags.  Tags First you need to know how to make the actual tags. We start by making a pattern and you can just use scrap paper for this part. This also makes it easier to make multiple tags. Cut a rectangle that is the width you want the tags to be. Mine is about two inches. Then fold in half to mark the center. Use a ruler to draw a strait line a little ways down. Cut from one end of the line strait to the fold at the top. Then repeat on the other side to create a point. Cut the bottom shorter if your tag looks to long. Trace this pattern on cardst...
