How to Modify a Made to Move Barbie Shirt

A lot of the made to move barbies come with this type of shirt. I do like the colors on some of them, but other aspects are not as good. I think that it is supposed to look like she is wearing a shirt underneath, but I don't like it when there is two peices of clothing attatched together. This shirt also does not have velcro on the back so it is hard to put on her again. Also, the sleeves are not even a seperate peice. It is a fun and quick project to give this shirt a makeover and make it cuter. Remember to take your time when you are taking peices of the shirt apart so that you have the max amount of fabric to work with. This has a lot of small seam allowences, so I did a lot of hand sewing on this project.

Start by opening the seam in the back with a seam ripper.

Use a seam ripper again to take off the other color of fabric at the bottom.
Carefully cut one sleeve off the shirt.
Repeat on the other sleeve. I folded mine in half to try to get the same cut on the other side.
Hem the bottom edge of the shirt.
Hem the sides of the shirt. I hand sewed this part because of the tiny seam allowence.
Hem the sleeves. This is the hardest part of this project because of the weird angle. This part definitly needs to be hand sewn.
Time to add the closure! You can use snaps or velcro, or something else if you prefer. Try the shirt on your doll to gage where the snaps need to go. Then sew them on.

Your shirt is now finished! You don't need to keep the scrap peices we cut off. Have fun and enjoy this new (well, sort of new) adition to your doll's wardrobe.
