DIY Miniature Dollhouse

I always think it is super adorable when people put a miniature dollhouse inside their own dollhouse, so I thought it would be fun to make one myself. I thought it was pretty fun and easy to make. My favorite part was coloring in the little windows. It did not take me very long to make, maybe about twenty minutes. It is made from paper, so you likely have everything you need on hand already. I strongly recomend reading all the instructions before you make anything so you know what to expect.

First, we need a small box to build our house in. There are two options for this. If you have an extra jewelry box, you can take the lid off and use that. I made my box from oragami. You can learn how here. If you use a jewelry box, you might want to cover it in a different color/pattern paper.

Trace your box on to paper. Then draw lines where you want different rooms. I think splitting it in four is easiest, but you could do different amount of rooms.

Draw in some details on the walls. I added a door, windows, and some other furniture. It does not have to be very detailed or exact because it is so small.

Color in the rooms. This will really make it look like a real house.

Cut out the rooms.

Put glue on the back of your paper with a regular glue stick. Then stick inside the back of the box.

On the outside of the box, you can draw in details like windows and doors. I clearly did not try to hard on this, but I would face it the other direction most of the time anyway.

Cut out a strip of paper the same width as the box sides. Fold it in half.

Make two more folds to create a triangle. The bottom should be the same length as the top of the house.

Glue the triangle on top of the house with a glue stick to create the roof.

Now we can make the walls inside the house. Cut two rectangles that fit across inside the box.

Cut slits in the center of each one.

Slide the two rectangles together using the slits.

Slide the walls inside the box.

Now the house is done! Now you just need to make a even smaller dollhouse to put inside this one.

I did not put any real furniture in my house, mostly because I just did not feel like the extra work today. If I did put any furniture in, I would glue it so it doesn't get lost. I would be curious how anyone makes such small furniture, so if you do decide to experiment with it, feel free to leave a comment about it.

Thanks for reading, I hope you enjoyed!
