DIY Miniature Arm Chair

This armchair is really cute and it has a nice finished looking result. I think it was really fun to make because you get to choose a pretty fabric, and it was fun to do both sewing and glueing. This would make a good addition to a doll room, I could definitly see it next to a little book case. I strongly recomend reading all the directions before you start making your own.

Supplies:

  • fabric (you don't need very much so scraps are great!)
  • cardboard
  • stuffing (the kind for stuffed animals)
  • wooden skewers
  • needle and thread
  • scissors
  • hot glue
  • paper
  • pencil
  • ruler (optional)

Start by making a pattern for the back of the chair on paper. Fold the paper and draw half of it on the fold. It should be similar to the shape I drew in the photo below, with a higher back and lower arms. It does not have to be exact.

Cut out the pattern and unfold. You can make any modifications now.

Trace your paper pattern onto fabric and cut two.

Place the two pieces of fabric on top of each other with the good sides facing in. Then sew along the top and sides.

Flip right side out and add some stuffing inside.

Use hot glue to close the bottom. Try not to get any stuffing in the glue or sticking out.

Cut a rectangle out of cardboard. The cloth back piece should fit around three sides of it. Cut a second cardboard rectangle the same size.

Cut a rectangle of fabric larger than your cardboard. I actually made mine a little smaller after taking this photo. The edges do not have to be very strait or exact.

glue two of the sides around the back of the cardboard.

Then glue the other sides to the back.

Cover the second cardboard rectangle the same way. This creates a nice finished edge when you flip them over.

Hot glue one side of the stuffed back piece to one of the cardboard pieces.

Bend the back piece to glue the other two sides to the cardboard.

Take the second cardboard rectangle and hot glue it on top of the first. This makes it look more like the chair has a cushion and helps the chair look more clean and finished.

Now its time to make the legs! Cut out four pieces off your skewer. I think mine are one inch long.

Hot glue the four sticks to the bottom of the chair. They should stick out from the center. Make sure the chair sits evenly when you set it right side up.

And with that, the chair is finished. Let me know in the comments if you try anything else for the legs, because I wasn't sure if this was the best style to do them. Hope you enjoyed this post!
