DIY Braided Crown for a Doll

This braided crown is super cute and it can give dolls a more interesting hair style. You could also add flowers to give it more of a woodsy vibe. You can take it off when you want a different hairstyle. It is pretty fast to make if you know how to braid already. I used the same yarn my doll's hair is made of so it looks like it is braided into her hair. You could try yarn wefts or synthetic hair to, but I don't know how well it would work. If you don't have the exact hair color then try to find a close match. Here is what the crown looks like on a doll without matching hair:

Please read all the directions before making one so you know what to expect and plan for. The supplies you need are:

  • Yarn
  • Hot glue
  • wire
  • scissors
  • wire cutters and needle nose pliers

Start by bending your wire around your dolls head. Then you can bend the ends so they can't damage the head/hair. You can reshape it a bit to make a nicer headband shape. Make sure it stays on the dolls head and is not too loose.

Now we will work on the braid. Cut out some long pieces of yarn.  If you are doing a standard braid you need three pieces, but I am using two strands for each piece (six altogether) so the braid will be thicker. Tie together at the top.

Braid the hair together until you get the the bottom. Then tie so the braid does not come loose. If you want a thicker braid, don't braid it as tightly.

Now you combine the wire headband and the braid. Put some hot glue on the wire and press the yarn braid on top. Make sure there is extra braid sticking off both ends.

Cut the ends of the braid. Use hot glue to secure them and make sure the braid does not start to unravel.

Your braided crown is finished! Now you can put it on your doll for a cute style, and it is easily removable when you want to restyle the hair.
