DIY Miniature Playing Cards
You do not need a lot of fancy supplies to make these, and you can easily change the scale. The cards would be really good for dollhouse scenes. You can do all the exact same steps except draw different details to make other games, like Uno or make a board game and use the cards as a peice of it. Using a thicker type of paper will make your cards more durable and easier to work with. I tried using a marker for details first, but it was really hard to draw so tiny so I suggest a fine tip pen. All the glue I use for this project is from a glue stick.
Stack of Cards
First I will show you how to make a stack of cards. You can use it as a discard pile or a pile to draw from. Start by cutting a strip of paper the thickness you want the cards.
Fold the strip into equal sections that are the size you want each card to be.Cut the cards apart along the folds.Glue the cards on top of each other until the stack it thick enough. For a discard pile, your stack does not need to be very neat. If you are making a stack for drawing cards, it should be more neat. Decorate the top card.Hand of CardsYou can put this in your doll's hands when your making a scene with them. Using a thin pen on the details helps a lot. Start by cutting a strip of paper the thickness you want the cards.
Fold the strip into equal sections that are the size you want each card to be.Cut the cards apart along the folds.Glue one of the cards to another. Make sure they are overlapping more at the bottom then the top.Glue more cards to those two the same way. I have about five cards in my hand. Keep adding cards until your hand looks full. Some of them can be overlapping more than others to make it look more realistic.Draw the details on each card. If a part of the card is mostly covered you do not need to draw on it.Box
The box of cards is a nice addition to make things look more realistic, but it cannot actually open and hold cards. It is just another solid piece like the cards. You need cardboard for this project. Start by cutting a peice of cardboard about the size of your cards. It could be a little bigger, but not smaller. Layer more on top if it is not as thick as you want the box to be. Cut a rectangle out of paper that is bigger than your cardboard. Glue the cardboard on like the photo below.Cut the paper so there are tabs at the short edge of the cardboard. Then fold them up and glue down so they cover the sides of the cardboard.Cut the rest of the paper down. It should be the same width as the cardboard now.Fold over the paper so it covers the side and back. Glue in place. Then fold it around again so it covers the last side and some of the top. Then decorate!
All your peices are finished! I hope this craft is fun and inspiring. If it isnt quite right for you, feel free to modify it to your needs.
