How to Make Magnets w/ Drawings

There are lots of different types of magnets you can make. This kind does not require that much special supplies. You can make any drawings into magnets. I like how vibrant colors look on magnets. They arent water proof but if you don't put them in a spot that it likely to get wet they should be fine. If your drawing is small enough you can put clear packing tape over to protect it. There are lots of places to put magnets and they are useful to put reminders and stuff up.

Supplies:

  • Cardboard (mine is a thin type, like a cereal box. I think thin cardboard will work better than thick.)
  • Paper
  • Your preffereed drawing supplies
  • magnets
  • scissors
  • glue stick
  • hot glue
Step 1.
Choose what you want your magnet to be and draw it on your blank paper. It should be fairly small, the biggest one I made was about 3 inches. If it is small it will be less likely to fall or bend. But, make sure it is bigger than your magnet so it does not show.
Step 2.
Glue your drawing onto cardboard with a glue stick. It helps to cut both your drawing and cardboard smaller. Cut around the drawing, making sure you are cutting the cardboard the same way. After you cut out the cardboard and drawing, they might not be sticking together in some spots. Peel up any places where it is not sticking and re-glue it. You might have to re-glue the whole drawing down. Be generous with the glue.
This picture is a little confusing. The paper and the cardboard it is glued on should be the same size and shape as eachother.

Step 3.
Get your magnet and heat up your glue gun! Put glue on one side of your magnet. Then quickly press it onto the back of your cardboard. Wait until your glue from the glue stick and any markers you used are completely dry before doing this step or it could mess up the paper. One magnet I made got discolored where I put the hot glue.

Step 4.
Add some hot glue around your magnet in places where it has not already sqeezed out. If there is a gap between the cardboard and magnet sqeeze some glue in there too.

Let the glue completely dry before you magnet it to anything. You will not have to wait long because hot glue dries so fast. Then put it on anything from a fridge to a locker to a whiteboard. Once you make one of these you will want to make a whole set!
