DIY Doll Skirt For 7 inch Breyer Dolls

Skirts are one of the simplest doll clothes to sew, but with such a tiny scale as these dolls have, it can still be tricky. This skirt is from a rectangle so the simple shape makes it easier. If your used to sewing small things, you can whip up a whole rainbow of skirts! You can pair it with lots of types of shirts and outfits, and also change the length. Have your doll on hand while you are sewing to make sure everything fits right.

Start by chooseing your fabric, I am just using cotton fabric. Cut a rectangle from fabric that is 6 in by 3 in. You can adjust the 3 inch side to change the skirt's length, just keep your seem allowence in mind.

Hem both of the long edges.
Get your elastic. Cut a 2 1/2 inch peice.

Line up your elastic with the top long edge of the skirt. Stretch your elastic so it is the same length, then sew across. When you finish, the top should be scrunched up and able to stretch when pulled.

Fold the skirt in half right sides together.. Sew down the side, make sure you catch the elastic.
Try it on the doll and adjust the seem if needed. You can also trim the extra fabric.

Cut a peice of ribbon about 2 1/2 inches long. Sew one end to the back of the skirt.

Sew the other end to the front of the skirt. You might want to flip it right side out for this part. It was hard to figure out the best way to take the picture, so it is a little unclear what is going on. This strap goes between the dolls legs to keep the skirt from sliding around. It can help skirts on tiny dolls sit in the right spot.
Your skirt is finished and ready for dress up! Thanks for reading this post and I hope this is a good addition to your dolls' wardrobe. Have fun!
