DIY Mini Bedding (Loft Bed)

Image
I really enjoy making miniature bedding because you can just use scrap fabric. I am making it for a loft bed this time, so I do it slightly differently than I would for a normal bed. I am working on this doll room the bed is in, so you are probably will see more posts about this room. To make the bedding you need some sewing skills. Comforter The comforter is pretty much the most important part. Without it, you just have a matress and pillows. Choose two colors of cotton fabric. White on the inside often looks really great, with a colorful fabric on the outside. You could choose a different combination though. Cut a rectangle out of each of them that is a little bigger than the matress to leave room for the seam.  Put the pieces right sides together. Sew around the outside but leave an opening to turn it right side out. Iron it and iron in the opening. Then hand sew the opening closed. Put the comforter on the matress and fold over the top to however far it looks good. Iron ...

DIY Small Felt Donut

Image
You could make this donut without any loops or anything like I did, or you could add one to make it a keychain, or an ornament. If you don't, you could use it as a toy for a doll, its the right size. You don't need a pattern to make this, but it can be really helpful to trace a circle. Change the color of the pink frosting to make your favorite flavor. You could also add random colorful stitches to make sprinkles. First cut out these shapes. I made the hole for my donut too big. The hole does not need to be very big. The pink peice should fit on the brown ones, but the outside should be a little smaller and not a perfect circle. Next, sew the outside of the pink piece on one of the brown pieces. Make sure the holes line up the whole time. Now line up the other brown circle underneath those ones. Sew all three layers together on the inside. Sew around the outside, adding in stuffing as you go. If you want a loop for a keychain, fold a ribbon in half to make a loop and sew it in ...

DIY Braided Elastic Bracelet

Image
This bracelet is really nice because you can put it on without an anoying clasp, and I like how simple it is. The supplies you need are elastic (the cord kind, like for beading), scissors, and tape. You can change the design pretty easily to create something more your style. Try using a different kind of elastic, or adding beads, or doing a different kind of braid. I messed up on the size of the green bracelet, but the techniqes are still the same. Step 1: Cut three lengths of elastic that are equal lengths. They should be a lot longer than your wrist, trust me you need more than you think. Tie them together at the top. Tape it down at the top to keep it from sliding around. Braid it all the way down. Here is a braiding tutorial  from Luxy Hair. I tied a knot at the end, but it made the next steps harder. Also, I had to tie it so I could take the picture. If you want beads on your bracelet, slide them on now.  Tie your braid in a loop that is comfortable around your wri...

DIY Felt Keychains

Image
I am in the mood to make keychains, because this is my second post about keychains today. These are easy enough that you could make one if your just learning how to sew. If your more experienced, you will make them pretty fast. You could also use them as Christmas ornaments. I made an avocado, sunglasses, and a mushroom. You don't need a pattern for these. I will tell you the shapes you need to cut out for each one. I think the avocado is my favorite. More food would be cute. They have that charming homemade feel which just makes them even more cute. Enjoy! Sunglasses Cut out these shapes from felt. You can change the color of the pink peice to whatever color you want the frames to be. The black lenses should fit inside the frames. If you are a having trouble cutting out the right shapes, draw them on paper first then trace them onto the felt. The sunglasses are the hardest shapes to cut out. If your worried about it, I recomend trying one of the others first. Sew the black lense...

DIY Tassel Keychain

Image
I kinda made up this as I went, so there might be a few photos missing or something. You can choose as many colors of thread as you want, so its really fun. Multicolor thread would be pretty cool too. These are super easy to make so you could do them at a party, or make a bunch for your friends. Supplies: 2 jump rings. 1 of mine is bigger than the other, but they could be the same size. Embroidery thread (As many colors as you want.) pliers (depending on how hard your jump rings are to bend) Scissors Something to wrap the thread around. I used a wooded block, a peice of cardboard would work well. Choose your embriodery thread colors. I chose 3 shades of blue. Wrap your thread around something over and over. Carfully slide the thread off and keep it in a loop.  Put a jumpring around the loop. Tie a seperate peice of thread around the 2 sides of the loop right underneath the jumpring. I used matching thread, that way I can just leave the ends long and it will not matter. You co...

If you want to learn to make some miniature food,  SugarCharmShop  and  Strawberry Puffcake  are both YouTube channels that have a lot of tutorials on making mini food from polymer clay.

How to Make a Pop Up Card

Image
I really like making cards myself  because it gives you something to do with your drawings, and you can make the card really perfect for what your using it for. Using thicker paper for this makes it feel more profesional and stay nicer. If your not that confident in your drawing skills, try tracing someone else's drawing and adding in your own details.  Step 1: Draw a picture. It helps to use clear bold lines and stay simple. The drawing should be under 3 inches, as your actual card with have to be a few inches bigger than the drawing. Step 2: Cut around your drawing. You don't have to cut directly on the lines, just close to them. Step 3: Make a strip of paper wider than your drawing and fold it. Step 4: Cut a much smaller strip of paper. Step 5: Fold it like this. Step 6: Glue the bottom tab down to the bottom of the card. Step 7: Glue the top tab on the other section of the inside. Make sure the card can close. Step 8: Glue the drawing you cut out on the peice of pape...
