Autumn Graphic Novels

Image
Fall is by far my favorite season, so I have been excited to release the third part of my series recomending graphic novels for each season since the begining. Be sure to check out the spring and summer lists if you haven't yet. I love everything about autumn, from the weather to, of course, Halloween. It was really hard to choose which books to include, considering how many witchy, autumnal graphic novels I have read and loved, but I eventually settled of these four books that I hope you love as much as me. Hooky by Miriam Bonastre Tur When twins Dani and Dorian miss the bus for a secret magic school, they seek an apprenticeship elsewhere, but end up caught in the war between witches and non magical people. With a team of friends by their side, is there a chance of healing the kingdom? This is one of my all time favorite series, I love the characters and art, especially the outfits. Pumpkinheads by Rainbow Rowell and Faith Erin Hicks Deja and Josiah have spent every fall together ...

DIY Reversible Belt Pouch

Image
I'm really exited to share how to make these belt bags because they give such a clean, finished result but are actually really simple to make, if you already have some sewing skills. I made mine with ren faire in mind but I think they are super cute for any time if you use your favorite fabrics. Speaking of which, the bag is fully reversible so you have double the color options! You can also change the size and shape for different affects. Before you start making the project, I recomend reading through all the instructions so you know what to expect. I also recomend making use of your iron! First, cut out all the pieces. You need four pieces for the bag, two flap pieces, and a small rectangle for the belt loop. Two of the bag pieces will be on one side and two on the other, so I used different colors. Each of the flap pieces will be on one side, so they can be different colors as well. I haven't included a pattern for the pieces, so you have to make your own shapes. You can d...

Summer Graphic Novels

Image
Summer is here, so it's time for my summer graphic novel list! I decided to make this a series, so check out my  spring list  next. I compiled a list of eight graphic novels I really liked that are set during summer or even just give me summer vibes, so it's time to get that summer reading done! Note that these aren't in a specific order. Sunny Side Up by Jennifer L. Holm When Sunny is sent to stay with her grandfather in Florida for the summer, she realizes it isn't going to be the epic summer vacation she was planning. This is one of my favorite books, I like that it isn't too intense but still has important lessons. Lumberjanes When Mal, Jo, Molly, Ripley, and April arrive at summer camp, it's not what they expected. Something strange is going on in the woods around camp, and it's up to them to find out what. I love the variety of art styles different books in the series have due to the different authors, especially when I can recognize my favorite autho...

DIY Miniature Room in a Box (part 1)

Image
I thought it would be a good idea to have a full tutorial on how I make my minature doll rooms because I have so many things relating to that on this blog. In this post, I'm going to talk about how I chose the box for my room, and adding wallpaper and flooring. Basically, this is the base for every room you make. You can change every one of the details in this to fit your needs and style, so get creative! To start, your going to need to make the actual room. I'm using a shoebox, which I like because you can close it which makes it easy to store. You can also use a regular cardboard box, a cereal box, or glue together peices of cardboard. When you are choosing a box, keep in mind the scale of the furniture and people you want to use in it. For example, this box is much to small for my monster high doll. You can also change the orentation of the box for different heights. When you open your box, you want it to stand up easily. I used the lid as one wall of the room. Once you ha...

New Banner Design!

Image
As you probably noticed, I changed the background banner for my blog! Before I was using one of the preset images, but now I have made my own photo. I chose items that relate to the things I talk about and arranged them to take a photo. The markers and thread represent the art and crafts. The doll is for the miniatures and dolls I make, the dress of course is for sewing and fashion. I also have several of my favorite graphic novels in the photo. It was really fun to arrange all the items and choose cohesive colors. I think this new banner really adds a lot to the blog! I included the full image below, as some of it will be cut off depending on your device. If you're wondering, the book on top is Salt Magic , and below it is Hooky and Phoebe and Her Unicorn . I definitly recomend checking all of them out!

Spring Graphic Novels

Image
Spring is just around the corner, so I compiled a list of books with plenty of flowers and spring vibes. All these graphic novels are really similar, so I hope you like sweet books with fantasy and nature mixed in! If you like this list, would you be interested in seeing a summer one in a few months? I loved all six of these graphic novels, so lets get into the list! The Sprite and the Gardener by Joe Whitt and Rii Abrego A lighthearted book about bringing back old traditions and growing new friendships. My favorite part was the delicate, colorful illustrations.  Other Ever Afters by Melanie Gillman New fairy tale stories told in graphic novel form. I loved how timeless and classic the fairytales felt even though they were made up for that book (at least as far as I know). This book is included on the list because of the flowers drawn on the borders of panels and between chapters, which gave it a spring, cottagecore feel. Anne of Green Gables: A Graphic Novel by Lucy Montgomery If ...

DIY Bookshelf Bookmark

Image
Sorry I haven't posted for a few weeks, but I am trying to get back into it with this one. I actually took the photographs for this project months ago, in the fall, but never got around to writing the instructions.  I always like having bookmarks around to grab whenever I am reading something. These bookmarks are a quick, versatile project, as you can change the design to fit your style. I love the natural fall colors I used on mine, but you could completly change it by coloring it differently or using a thicker pen. Play around with different styles! You can also use the same drawing style to make a card or decoration instead of a bookmark. Supplies: Paper (thicker paper is better, it also depends on the medium you are using) scissors pencil pen (or whatever you want to outline in optional coloring tools (can be watercolor, colored pencils, or something else) optional ruler Start by cutting out the paper you will draw on. For a bookmark, it is better to have thicker paper. You can...
