DIY Book Charms

Image
I love these book charms because I made them look super old and they remind me of spell books. You can use them for earrings, a keychain, a necklace, and probably more. I like how easy it is to change/add details. I recomend reading all the directions before you start making one so you are prepared. I broke the instructions up into sections so it is more organized and easy to understand. Stage 1: Base Start by cutting a piece of cardboard the size you want the book to be. Cut one or two more the same size so the book is thicker. Glue the cardboard on top of eachother. Use a regular glue stick. Cut a strip of paper that is slightly wider than the cardboard. I am using cardstock because it is thicker and will last longer without getting damaged.  Use a glue stick to glue the cardboard on the paper. The paper should be slightly larger than the cardboard. Wrap the paper around two sides of the cardboard and glue down. Cut off the extra. Stage 2: Paint Choose what color you want ...

DIY Miniature Rug

Image
A rug is a really good addition to doll rooms because it can add some color and texture. They are also really common in real houses, so it is important to add them to doll rooms sometimes. The way I make them is really easy and can be fast depending on the size of the rug and thickness of yarn. It also uses supplies that are easy to get that you probably have on hand. You can change the size of the rug, and you can also create stripes with different colors of yarn.  Start by cutting a rectangular piece of cardboard. Use a ruler to mark lines at even spaces on two sides across from each other. Mine are a half inch apart. Then make short cuts on the lines. Take your yarn and put the end in one of the notches. Make sure you have lots of extra yarn before it. Then wrap the yarn around the cardboard and stick it in a notch on the other side. Repeat until you get to the end, and cut the yarn with extra. Tie the two extra yarn strings together. Cut a very long piece of yarn. Begin ...

The Compass South

Image
The Compass South by Hope Larson and Rebecca Mock is a historical fiction graphic novel. It does not have any magic or anything, but still reminds me of fantasy. I really liked this book, especially because of the art. I thought having a journey across the real world instead of a fantasy map was more interesting because you could picture where the characters are. There is a second book, Knifes Edge, that I also really liked. I would highly recomend both books if you like historical fiction, pirates, and adventure. Twins Alexander and Cleopatra join the Black Hook Gang when their father dies, but when a heist goes wrong, they are captured by the police and forced to give information about the gang. Once they are released, the real danger isn't the police, but the leader of the gang. The twins make a plan to get new lives, but now they are seperated with their competition.
